About Me

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. My main research interest is the history of philosophy and, in particular, the history of Modern philosophy. I work primarily on Descartes, Spinoza, and Leibniz and focus on their views in metaphysics (free will), moral psychology, moral philosophy, and, in the case of Spinoza, political philosophy. My interest in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century philosophy stems from my interest in understanding our contemporary moral and political self-understanding; my research explores a pivotal chapter in the history of our moral and political conceptual framework.
