Immanuel Lutheran Church dates back to October, 1895 when its first service was held in Murphysboro.
The church was officially organized on March 21, 1897.
Construction on the simple white frame building began in August of 1897.
The “new” and current church building was started in 1923.
The very name of our church “Immanuel, God with us, “ reminds us often that God is indeed with us - throughout all the trials and problems of life.
In our weakness, God is with us to strengthen us.
In our sinfulness, God is with us to forgive us.
In the midst of loneliness and despair, God is with us to comfort us.
We rejoice that we are his children.
Immanuel Congregation exists to serve God’s purposes.
As the Body of Christ, we desire to share God’s saving love with people in our community and throughout the world,
and to strengthen the Christian faith and life of our members, and to further Christian education and growth for people of all ages throughout our congregation and community.
From the beginning, the congregation knew the importance of a Christian education for their children.
Immanuel Lutheran School was opened in 1897.
Today, Immanuel school offers classes from Pre-K through 8th grade.
At Immanuel, we believe effective education is carried on through quality learning programs while providing experiences that relate the Christian faith to every aspect of life.
A strong academic program is supplemented by art, music, band (through the public school), physical education, and sports.
For over 100 years Immanuel Lutheran School has been providing a strong Christian and academic education to our members and the community.
We welcome the community to our church and school.
