Daisy Hogue was Lee's first wife. The marriage ended in divorce. Lee Hill Jr. was their only child. Lee then married a woman named Nell, a beautician. They lived first on Hester street in Carbondale across from Grace Church, and then on Grand Avenue on the corner of Marion street. Lee and Nell had a daughter who was stillborn or died at birth in August 1940. Margaret (Korando?) was Lee's third wife and the mother of their child, Susy Hill Casper.
The first shot plainly shows the Tennessee farmer in Lee Senior. The second was probably taken in 1942 at the Hill home on the east side of Carbondale, Illinois. Lee's son, Lee Jr., the only child of Lee's first marriage to Daisy Baumgartner, was home on leave from the Navy. The third photo shows father and son posing together stiffly, probably about 1940 or 1941. It's plain they were not best friends. The first shot is of Lee and his future daughter-in-law, Margaret Frances Townes, clowning by the Hill home in Carbondale. This photograph, dated June 1941, was probably taken by Lee's son, Lee Jr.
The second shot shows Lee's third wife, Marge (Korando?) at his left. This was taken in front of the Townes home, 616 Allyn Street, possibly late 1945 or early 1946. I can't identify the couple to their right. They may have come to visit Lee Sr.'s grandson, Lee Hill III.
The first photo shows Hubert Lee and his grandson, Lee III, at some unknown location. Little Lee would be between 1-2 years old. The second shows Lee and his grandson at the Crab Orchard Lake spillway in 1965. The third shows Hubert Lee Hill and his sister, Dessie Mae. The fourth shows Hubert and a grandson from his son's second marriage, Randy Allen Hill. The fifth shows Hubert and a grandson from his son's third marriage, David E. Hill, taken about 1977.
