This photo is a stunning beauty, and deserves more thorough retouching to remove cracks in the original's emulsion, which I will eventually repair. Vesta Drake Townes. This portrait was painted by one of Paul Halcott Townes's fellow prisoners, Hugo Tchitchek, in 1945, when Paul was a POW in Germany. Hugo painted it from a photograph Paul provided. Marietta Vesta Drake Townes (1927-1969) wife of Paul Halcott Townes and mother of Paul Stephen Townes and Jacqueline Drake Townes Richards. Vesta committed suicide on 16 December 1969.
