My wife took this picture on May 4, 2005 at the
Southern Illinois University Student Center. I was autographing
copies of my book, The Other
Side of the Middle, A Pennsylvania Dutch Story of Family Love.
The book includes Pennsylvania Dutch farming in the old sustainable,
organic ways when they still used a cultivator and their hands and hoes
to get rid of weeds instead of dumping chemicals to the point where the
soil didn't even have any earthworms in it anymore. This is a
story about "the good old days" when money wasn't the only value we
taught our children.

This is what one person said after attending one of my reading
Back to The Other Side of the
Middle.
